About

Makizono Kenji was born in 1983 and graduated from the Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts in 2008. Since 2011, Makizono is based in Fukuoka. He has participated in artist in residence programs mainly in Asia including Bangladesh, Malaysia, Korea, and Taiwan. Using the method of collaboration, Makizono creates artworks that touch the issues of social system that the artist leaned from his relationship with the local people. His works also deal with energy issues, politics, and economics.
Recent exhibitions include Fictional Organic in Daecheong Ho Museum of Art, Korea (2019), Foreshadows in Tokyo Arts and Space Hongo, Japan (2019), the 18th ASIAN ART Biennale Bangladesh 2018 in National Academy of Fine and Performing Arts, Bangladesh, Exchange in Taitung Art and Culture Center, Taiwan (2018), The Art of Travel in MMCA Residency Goyang, National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea (2018), and Cultural Park, Soulangh Cultural Park, Tainan, Taiwan (2017).
In addition to art-making, Makizono also participates the group that organizes Itoshima Arts Farm, the international art festival in Itoshima City, Fukuoka, and art space tetra, an alternative space in Fukuoka City through which he introduces his artist colleagues whom he met in the residence programs.
